Botswana – the luxury of silence and pristine Africa.
Botswana is a world leader in eco-friendly tourism. More than 35% of the territory is protected (National Parks and Reserves) and their philosophy is “low impact, high quality”, less people, more nature. It is one of the few African countries that has chosen quality over quantity. Instead of mass tours and crowds, in Botswana you get spaciousness, privacy, and more often you meet a whole herd of elephants than other tourists.
The country is stable, peaceful and safe, and the locals are warm, cultured and proud of their nature. The official language is English, but Setswana, the traditional language of the majority of the population, is also often heard. The local currency is pula, which means “rain”, in a country where rain means life.
Botswana has perhaps the most authentic safari system in the world, but there are no paved roads through parks. You drive through sand, mud and water, cross rickety wooden bridges, camp in the middle of nowhere, all with permits and rules that preserve nature.
Okavango Delta
The Okavango Delta is one of the largest inland deltas in the world, a place where the river disappears into the sand. Here you can sail wet boats through the reeds, with hippos, elephants and predators, all without the noise of the engines. The most famous part of the Okavango Delta is the Moremi Game Reserve , where we will spend two nights or three days on a horseback trip in one of the most famous campgrounds in the safari world, Xakanaxa.
Khwai Concession
Khwai Concession is a community-run area where off-road and night safaris are allowed. This is one of the few places where you can see a leopard, a wild dog, a hyena and a lion in one night. The ride usually takes place on the sand, along the river, in search of the right action.
Gallery
Savuti is anegendaric dry savannah where lions hunt even elephants. The documentary Savage Kingdom was filmed here, and Sekekama the lion became one of the biggest stars in the wilderness. This is a place where nature shows its most brutal, but also the most authentic reality.
Chobe
Also known as “The Land of the Giants,” Chobe Park is home to Africa’s largest elephant population. With more than 10,000 square kilometers, this is the second largest national park in Botswana. Composed of rich ecosystems and pristine landscapes, Chobe offers one of the highest concentrations of wildlife on the African continent.
BOTSWANA:
Capital: Gaborone
Population: about 190,000
Language: English and Tswanu
VISA:
To travel through Botswana, citizens of the Republic of Serbia, the Republic of Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Montenegro and Slovenia require a tourist visa.
It is possible to obtain a visa online and is paid 30 USD. You will also need a visa for Zimbabwe, which we get at the border on the day we enter that country and it costs 30 USD.
Health situation:
It is recommended to use bottled water for drinking, as well as for brushing teeth, fruits and vegetables.
It is recommended that you bring regular medications, probiotics, fever-lowering agents, analgesics and other medications that you usually use during the trip.
Also, don’t forget to bring sunscreen and insect spray.
It is advisable that you also have health insurance.
Nutrition:
The food we will eat is in most cases adapted to European cuisine, we have a personal chef who will prepare meals just for us every day. The diet is based on meat, vegetables, fruits, but can also be adapted to vegetarian meals.
Dressing:
We advise you to wear clothes in shades of green, brown and beige.
Bring a pair of sweatshirts, sweatpants or similar clothes as mornings and evenings can be a little fresher.
Avoid blue and black clothing as it attracts insects.
For trekking it is necessary to have long clothes and comfortable outdoor sneakers.
Currency – Botswana:
The currency that is in circulation is Pula, which means “rain”, in a country where rain means life.
It is recommended that you carry dollars with you, but only those printed in 2009 and later.
The use of international payment cards (VISA, etc.) in Botswana is possible.
Internet and telephony:
Mobile telephony in Botswana supports roaming for SIM cards from Serbia.
Domestic SIM cards can be easily obtained with a passport when shopping.
It is recommended that you have adapters for sockets, as an input similar to the one in the UK is used, with three flat connectors. The first few days on the tour when we leave Maun we will not have access to the internet.
Be sure to bring a powerbank with you, because for the first 7 days you have to charge your phones using an external battery and while driving using the car’s electricity.
